Everything you need to know about traveling with Vagabond, from booking your tour to packing for the Irish weather.
Browse QuestionsOur tours are designed for active travelers who want to explore beyond the typical tourist trail. We use 4x4 vehicles to access remote locations, focus on authentic local interactions, and include short walks and hikes. Our "Driftwood" option offers a slightly more relaxed pace, while "Vagabond" tours are for the adventurous at heart.
We believe small groups provide a better experience. Our tours typically have a maximum of 16 guests. This allows us to stay in smaller, family-run hotels and navigate narrow country roads that large buses cannot manage.
Our guides are experienced locals passionate about their country. They are trained drivers, historians, storytellers, and often musicians. They handle all logistics, share hidden gems, and ensure you have a memorable and safe journey.
Absolutely. About half of our guests are solo travelers. We pair solo travelers of the same gender in twin rooms to avoid single supplements where possible, or offer single rooms for an additional fee. The small group atmosphere makes it easy to make friends.
You can book directly through our website by selecting your preferred tour and dates. A deposit is required to secure your booking. You will receive a confirmation email immediately after booking, followed by a detailed travel pack closer to your departure date.
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and bank transfers. A non-refundable deposit is taken at the time of booking, with the remaining balance due 60 days before your tour departs.
Cancellations made more than 60 days prior to departure receive a full refund minus the deposit. Cancellations between 30 and 60 days receive a 50% refund. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for cancellations made within 30 days of departure unless the tour is cancelled by Vagabond.
Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for all our tours. We require that you have comprehensive cover that includes medical expenses, personal injury, repatriation, and cancellation. We strongly recommend purchasing insurance at the time of booking.
We pride ourselves on selecting high-quality, characterful accommodations. You will stay in a mix of family-run guesthouses, small hotels, and historic manor houses. We prioritize locations with local charm and excellent hospitality over international chain hotels.
Our tours are active but accessible. On Vagabond tours, we include 2 to 4 short walks (1-3 hours each) per day, often over uneven terrain. On Driftwood tours, walks are optional and generally shorter and easier. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.
A hearty Irish breakfast is included every morning. We also organize several group dinners during the tour to introduce you to local cuisine. Lunches are usually picnics enjoyed at scenic spots or stops at local pubs. Dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.
Ireland's weather is changeable, so we recommend layering. A waterproof jacket, comfortable walking boots, and a warm sweater are essential. A detailed packing list is provided in your travel pack. Don't forget your camera and a swimsuit for hotel hot tubs!
